Beginners: Get a Free Trial Class!

We’ve been part of the community since 2011 and take pride in our instructors, BJJ programs, and the value provided to you! We encourage all local members to take advantage of our free trial class.

This is a great way to check out our classes, facilities, and instructors before joining. We are a small, family-run business that offers high-quality training at very reasonable and competitive membership fees.

Membership Options: Unlimited Classes

  • Free trial: classes for students new to BJJ
  • Single-day: $60 for unlimited classes
  • Month to Month: $230 for unlimited classes
  • Long-term Membership: $180 per month with a 12-month commitment.
  • Day or month pass fees can be applied to long-term memberships.
  • Visit our facilities for more information on payment options and long-term membership pricing.
  • Kimono rental is available for $30.

Our drop-in rates are best suited for someone visiting from out of town or staying for a short stay, such as business travelers or people on vacation. Rates include unlimited training in all adult classes listed on our schedule.

System requirements, curriculum preparation, exam length, and fees

The Rocian Gracie Jr. system is designed to guide you through over 300 techniques on your path to a black belt. Our comprehensive curriculum covers takedowns, guard passing, side control, guard retention, back attacks, sweeps, transitions, escapes, counter defenses, self-defense, and more.

  • The journey to becoming a BJJ black belt is long and challenging. We make it easier by providing the Rocian Gracie Jr. blueprint to guide you.
  • Students can progress at their own pace. Our system makes the journey more digestible, trackable, and efficient for learning.
  • Our detailed videos, book curriculum, and community are great resources. Every student and instructor will practice the same moves daily. If you have any questions, need tips, or guidance, our community and resources will be available to you.
  • Our system allows students to learn, execute, and refine each technique one move at a time, one day at a time!

Curriculum and Video Series

Unlike many BJJ schools that teach techniques in a haphazard manner, our program ensures that every student learns, drills, and masters the same moves through a structured and detailed book system. This fosters a strong community where knowledge, technique, grips, and body positions can be shared and refined among fellow students. The Rocian Gracie Jr. system also offers a video series ($15 per month access) that students can subscribe to as a study aid during exam periods. They can review the videos and further refine their techniques with fellow students and higher belts during dedicated study sessions.

Examinations:

While exams are completely optional, they are strongly encouraged to solidify your skills and advance in the system. Earning a blue belt and above takes a significant amount of commitment for preparation and testing.

  • Group Exams: Our Rocian Gracie Jr. black belts administer these tests to gauge your mastery of the 40+ moves you’ve learned over the previous four months.
  • Stripe Promotions: Every stripe signifies progress through a fixed set of 40+ moves. Our rigorous testing ensures consistent drilling of both new and previously learned techniques, leading to mastery through repetition and refinement.
  • Belt Promotions: Level up and test your skills by demonstrating all moves from previous belts and stripes. Black belt exams require the precise execution of all 300+ techniques in our rigorous curriculum.
  • Exam Preparation: One month before exams, all classes focus on exam preparation. This communal effort involves instructors and higher belts drilling and tutoring techniques, ensuring lower belts are well-equipped for the curriculum. Students can optionally subscribe to the video series ($15/month) during preparation month to review for the exam.
  • Exam Sparring: Demonstrate your understanding of exam techniques and endurance during six-minute rounds of rolling against six partners.
  • Exam Dates: Exams are held every four months, with a dedicated month of preparation beforehand.
  • Exam Qualification: Attending at least 32 classes per trimester makes you eligible to test for your next stripe or belt. 
  • Exam Fees/Length: Stripe/belt exam fees start at $60 and increase depending on belt level and exam length. Exam times range from 1 hour to 3 hours, depending on your belt level. The examination fee for a new belt will be higher owing to the exam length.
  • Blue, Purple, and Brown Belts: Each belt takes at least 1 year and 8 months of regular training. Promotions are finalized at the discretion of the school professor after examinations.
  • Black Belts: Earning one typically takes around 7 years of consistent practice and dedication.
